Reading with the Leopards Program
Volunteer Position Open
May 15, 2012 by Brad McFarling
Since its inception, Wendy Herring has chaired the Reading with the Leopards program at Lovejoy schools. Wendy is stepping down from the position. This is an extremely successful program that our elementary students really look forward to. The position would entail coordinating all high school sports wishing to participate with the Lovejoy elementary schools throughout the school year. Please contact Milton Honza (president@leopardupper90soccer.com) if you are interested. Milton will forward your name on to the appropriate people for consideration.
"TEAMMATES Matter" Project
Inspirational Speaker
May 10, 2012 by Brad McFarling
Parents and Student athletes of Lovejoy ISD,
Please join us, July 26th from 7:00pm - 8:15pm in the Lovejoy High School lecture hall, for an exciting Leopards, Inc sponsored
event brought here especially for you! Alan Williams will present "Building Character....Promoting Team".
Alan's project, TEAMMATES Matter, was founded on a simple philosophy. Here is an excerpt from his website:
Individualism is everywhere and there needs to be more focus on team. As the culture tries to convince us that the name on the
back of the jersey is more important than the name on the front, we recognize that winning teams don’t think this way—they know that
everyone’s role is valued and that more is accomplished when individuals aim beyond themselves.
After playing only 59 minutes in 4 years as a walk-on basketball player at Wake Forest, Alan Williams was asked by a reporter, “Why would you fight so hard to be a part of a team if you were never going to get to play?” To answer that reporter’s question, he decided to write a book.
Unlike many sports stories, these pages are not filled with game winning shots or heroic moments. Instead, this story is predicated on a genuine love for the game and memories with teammates that go way beyond the box score in the morning paper.
From 2005-2009, Alan visited hundreds of schools and athletic communities not just to share what he had learned playing sports, but also to figure out what was really going on in athletics today.
During countless conversations with coaches, athletes and their parents, Alan was reminded once again that no trophy will ever be shiny enough to capture the joy of having relationships and being a member of a team. Why? Because Teammates Matter™.
